Review → Reports

Reports are MisterShell’s way of producing and sharing curated snapshots of your fleet state — inventory and health posture, configuration changes, and session audits. You define templates (what to include and who can see it), then generate reports from those templates on demand or on a schedule.

Creating or editing a report template and generating a report requires the Base edition or higher. Without Base, those controls remain visible but locked. Existing templates and generated reports remain available to view or delete when your role permits it.

What you can do

  • Create and maintain reusable report templates.
  • Run a template on demand to produce a timestamped report.
  • Share report links with teammates or (optionally) anyone with the link.
  • Schedule recurring runs via automation.
  • Delete templates (and the reports generated from them).

Common tasks

Create a template

  1. Click Create Template at the top right.
  2. Fill the form:
    • Template name — a descriptive name.
    • Description — optional notes.
    • Report template — pick from the catalog: Inventory Posture, Health Posture, Configuration Changes, or Session Audit.
    • Locations — tick the locations to include. Descendant locations are always included automatically.
    • Resource types — multi-select. Leave empty to include every type.
    • Timeframe — pick a preset (Last 24 hours, Last 7 days, Last 30 days, Last 90 days, This month, Last month, Last 12 months). The preset is resolved each time the template runs, so the window is always current. No timeframe is available for report types that do not require a date range.
    • Access mode — Public link (anyone with the link can open it) or Role-scoped to specific roles.
    • Allowed roles — required if access mode is Role-scoped.
    • Valid for — how long each generated report stays accessible, from 1 day to 1 year.
    • Include AI executive summary — when enabled, every run starts with an AI-generated plain-language summary of the report’s contents.
  3. Click Create Template.

Run a report now

Click the green play icon on a row. The template runs immediately; a notification confirms the report was generated and the row’s Generations count updates. Open the new report from the template’s reports list (next task).

View previously generated reports

Click the template name (the link in the Name column). A modal lists every report generated from this template — when it was generated, until when it stays valid, and its access mode — with actions to open the report in a new browser tab, copy its share link, and delete that single report (with delete permission). Click Load more at the bottom to page through older reports. Reports open as web pages; there is no separate download.

Edit or delete a template

  • Edit (blue pencil) — change any field. The modification only affects future runs; already-generated reports remain as they were.
  • Delete (red trash) — removes the template and every report generated from it. Shared links will stop working immediately. The confirmation dialog states exactly how many reports will be deleted.

Schedule automated report runs

Reports run on-demand from this tab, but you can also run them automatically via automation playbooks:

Scheduled generation requires the Enterprise edition because it runs through Automation. The report itself still follows the access mode and validity period configured on its template.

  1. Build a playbook triggered by a cron schedule (see Automation Studio).
  2. Add a Generate Report action and pick this template.
  3. Optionally add notification actions (email, webhook) pointing at the generated report.

Table columns

ColumnNotes
NameLink into the per-template reports list.
TemplateThe catalog entry this template is based on.
FiltersBadges summarizing the location and resource-type scope. Hover over a badge to see the names.
TimeframeThe preset name when the report supports a date range.
AccessPublic (orange) or Restricted (blue, hover to see the roles).
GenerationsCount of reports produced from this template.
Last runTimestamp of the most recent run, or Never.
ActionsRun now / Edit / Delete.

Access modes

ModeWho can open the report link
PublicAnyone with the link, authenticated or not.
RestrictedSigned-in users with at least one of the allowed roles.

The mode and validity window are baked into each generated report at the moment of creation — editing the template later does not change who can access already-generated reports.

Permissions

  • Read templates, open reports: app.reports.read.
  • Create / edit templates, run reports: app.reports.write, plus the Base edition or higher.
  • Delete templates or generated reports: app.reports.delete.

Deleting templates or generated reports does not require Base, so existing report data can still be retired after a license change.
