Manage → Configuration → Facts

Reached from Manage via the Configuration entry at the bottom of the browse tree.

Choose which facts MisterShell collects for each resource type. Facts are the platform’s normalized, vendor-neutral, pre-collected data about a resource; users browse them from the Facts tab on any resource or location.

The tab is split in two columns. The left column lists resource types; the right column shows the fact types defined for the selected type, each with an enable toggle.

Before you start

Facts collection is controlled by the admin Facts toggle in Advanced Settings (off by default). Until it is enabled, no facts are collected and the per-type toggles here have no effect.

With the toggle on, the per-type configuration on this tab decides exactly which fact types are gathered.

What you can do

  • Pick a resource type on the left and see its fact types on the right.
  • Enable or disable individual fact types — disabled types are not collected.

Each fact card shows the fact’s display name, its identifier underneath, and a category badge (for example System or a networking layer) so near-identical names are easy to tell apart.

Changes only affect future collections. Previously recorded facts are unchanged.

The fact catalog grows

The set of available fact types expands over time as new ones are added. Treat the list on the right as the live catalog for your version rather than a fixed set; newly shipped fact types appear here automatically, enabled by their shipped default.

Common tasks

Turn a fact type on or off

Flip the toggle on the fact card. The change is saved immediately and a notification confirms the new state. Disabled fact types stop being collected; their previously recorded observations remain available. On a resource’s Facts tab, a grey collection dot identifies a disabled type. See Collection status to distinguish disabled collection from a successful empty result.

Pick a resource type to configure

Click a resource type in the left column. Its fact types load on the right.

What the counter badge means

Every resource type on the left shows an enabled / total counter (for example, 9 / 13). It tracks, in real time, how many fact types for that type are turned on versus how many exist in total. A type with 0 / N collects no facts.

Permissions

  • Configure facts collection: app.facts.write.
  • Viewing collection settings requires app.facts.read.
  • Browsing the collected facts themselves uses app.resources.read — see the Facts tab.
  • Requires the global Facts toggle to be enabled by an administrator.
