Manage → Configuration → Metrics

Reached from Manage via the Configuration entry at the bottom of the browse tree.

Configure which health metrics MisterShell computes for each resource type, and tune the thresholds that decide when a metric turns from Healthy to Warning or Critical.

The tab is split in two columns. The left column lists resource types; the right column shows the metrics defined for the selected type.

What you can do

  • Pick a resource type on the left and see its metrics on the right.
  • Enable or disable individual metrics — disabled metrics are not computed.
  • Tune warning and critical thresholds for numeric metrics.
  • Drag-reorder metrics to control the order they appear in dashboards.
  • Reset a metric to its shipped default.

Changes only affect future collections. Previously recorded values are unchanged.

Metric types

Metrics come in several flavors, indicated by a colored badge on each card:

TypeColorThresholds
GaugeorangeWarning and critical numeric thresholds (for example, CPU percent).
CountblueWarning and critical numeric thresholds (for example, error count).
BooleangreenNo thresholds — the metric is simply true or false, with human-readable labels.
DistributionpurplePick a category to watch, then set warning and critical thresholds as a percentage of the total.

Common tasks

Turn a metric on or off

Flip the Enabled toggle on the metric card. The change is saved immediately; a notification confirms the new state. Disabled metrics disappear from dashboards and stop being collected.

Adjust thresholds

  1. Edit the threshold values directly on the card. The placeholder shows the shipped default.
  2. Click the green save (disk) icon that appears when there are unsaved edits.
  3. A notification confirms the save, and the card is marked clean again.

For distribution metrics, pick which category to watch in the Watch dropdown, then set the warning and critical percentages for that category.

Re-order metrics

Grab the ⋮⋮ drag handle on the left of a metric card and drop it at the new position. A “Metrics reordered” notification confirms the save.

Reset to default

  1. Click the orange refresh icon.
  2. Confirm in the dialog. Enabled state, thresholds, and display order revert to the shipped defaults.

What the counter badge means

Every resource type on the left shows a enabled / total counter (for example, 7 / 12). It tracks, in real time, how many metrics for that type are turned on versus how many exist in total. A type with 0 / N has all metrics disabled.

Permissions

  • The tab is shown only to users with app.metrics.write, which also covers every action on it (enable / disable / edit thresholds / reorder / reset).
  • Reading the metric configuration through the API uses app.metrics.read.
