Settings → System → Config

The Config tab is a guided configuration panel that groups essential workspace settings in a logical order. The same settings are also reachable individually (mostly under Advanced Settings), but this panel provides a streamlined path that is especially useful right after installation or when bringing up a new environment.

The panel is intentionally scoped to settings you can change at runtime. Infrastructure-level options (the database, cache, and application-state connection strings, and the log level) are set through environment variables outside of the UI.

Steps

Select a step from the left sidebar, edit its related fields, and click Save. Each step is saved independently; selecting another step does not save the current one.

The steps, in order:

  1. Data Collection — how MisterShell polls your resources and stores snapshots: collection concurrency, interval, and retention.
  2. Performance Tuning — cache max memory and the maximum number of concurrent tasks.
  3. TLS Certificate — replace the server’s self-signed certificate with your own.
  4. Security — password policy (minimum length, uppercase, digits, special characters) and account lockout (max failed attempts, lockout duration).
  5. Email (SMTP) — outgoing email for notifications and password resets.
  6. Backup — automated database backups to an SFTP target.
  7. Housekeeping — retention periods for logs, telemetry, and automation data.

Common tasks

Configure the workspace for the first time

  1. Open Settings → System → Config.
  2. Select each step from the left sidebar and fill the fields you want to change.
  3. Click Save before moving to another step. A confirmation names the step that was saved.

Revisit the configuration

The Config tab is always available. Return at any time and select the relevant step — existing values are pre-filled so you can adjust selectively.

Leave a step unchanged

Select another step in the sidebar without clicking Save. The stored values for the step you leave remain unchanged.

Permissions

The Config tab is shown only to users with app.settings.write; everyone else does not see it. Individual settings remain editable on Advanced Settings with the same permission.
