Resource Files

The Files tab lets you browse a compatible SSH resource and copy files between it and the MisterShell file catalog. The tab appears only for resource types that declare file support. MisterShell checks the live service when you connect, so a visible tab may still report that the declared file service is unavailable on that particular resource.

The page has two panes:

  • MisterShell shows the catalog attached to the location tree.
  • The resource pane shows the filesystems and folders reported by the resource.

Both panes use clickable breadcrumbs. On devices with several filesystems, the resource pane first shows roots such as flash: or usb:. On an SFTP resource it normally opens / directly. Symbolic links, special entries, or names that cannot be handled safely remain visible but cannot be selected.

Browse and transfer a file

  1. Click Connect in the resource pane.
  2. Browse to the source file in either pane.
  3. Browse the other pane to the destination folder.
  4. Select the source file.
  5. Click the arrow pointing toward the destination.
  6. Follow progress in the transfer list below the panes. You can cancel a transfer while it is active.

If the resource uses a credential template and you have no saved credential, Authentication required appears when connecting. Choose Enter manually or Use vault, then click Connect. Vault choices are personal/team entries compatible with this resource’s file connection. Each transfer opens a separate connection and can prompt again; choose your credentials and click Transfer. Neither choice saves a credential for the template. See providing credentials when connecting.

If your role can write but not browse a destination, enter its folder path directly. MisterShell shows only the filesystem roots needed to target a resource and does not reveal directory or catalog contents that your role cannot read.

MisterShell never replaces an existing destination implicitly. If the destination name already exists, choose another folder or rename the existing entry first. Transfers continue in the background while the file session remains active. If an interrupted upload may have left a partial resource file, transfer history tells you to inspect and remove it before retrying.

File access covers the granted location and its descendants. With file-read access to /EMEA/France/Paris, you can navigate through France, EMEA and Root to reach Paris, but cannot list, download or transfer files belonging to those ancestors unless another file-read grant covers them. Access to a resource does not expand your file access. Catalogue folders and files in unrelated branches, such as Germany, also remain unavailable without a grant.

Manage files and folders

In the catalog pane you can upload browser files, create folders, rename or move entries, download files, and delete entries when your role allows those actions. To move an entry, drag its row onto a destination folder or breadcrumb in the same location.

In the resource pane, available actions depend on the resource type and live file service. Read-only users can browse and download. Users with resource execution access may also see supported actions such as upload, create folder, rename, move, or delete. To move an entry, drag its row onto a destination folder or breadcrumb in the same resource filesystem. A lock icon explains actions that your role cannot perform.

Review activity

File browsing, resource-side changes, and transfer results are recorded as operation metadata. No file content is included. Open the completed file session under Review → Sessions to see what was attempted, when it ran, and whether it succeeded.

Administrators can govern transfers with File Transfer Policy.

Permissions

  • Browse or download catalog files: app.files.read.
  • Upload, create folders, rename, or move catalog entries: app.files.write.
  • Delete catalog entries: app.files.delete.
  • Browse or download from the resource: app.resources.read.
  • Upload or change the resource filesystem: app.resources.execute.

A transfer requires permission on both its source and destination.
